In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week, we at Ridgeway Training thought that now would be the ideal time to take a look at mental health within the transport industry. In this blog post, we will explore how crucial good mental health is for drivers, as well as explaining how we are playing our part in helping the industry improve the way that it supports mental health issues.
When researching for this blog, we came across a stat from mental health charity Mind. It told us that 30% of work related absences in the transport industry can be put down to mental health. We also found out that within a given year, 25% HGV drivers face mental health issues.
These stats were extremely hard to read and the fact that around 80% of the transport and logistics sector is made up of men, who we all know struggle in particular to express their mental health concerns, the problem is only amplified further. These are just some of the many reasons why we at Ridgeway Training want to improve the mental health care that is currently available within the industry. Please read on to find out more.
Here at Ridgeway Training, we are proud to run a First Aid for Mental Health course and more information on this can be found on our Driver CPC page. The aim of this course is to educate everyone on the impacts, risks and warning signs of mental health so that it can be more effectively identified and supported in the workplace.
Courses such as ours also go a long way to reducing the stigma around mental health which makes workers a lot more comfortable in coming forward if they are struggling. This is particularly important in an industry such as ours, seeing that it has been proven that poor mental health can contribute to road safety
If you would like to find out more or book our First Aid for Mental Health course, please be sure to contact us today at Ridgeway Training. We look forward to speaking with you and helping to ensure the safety of your drivers.
Happy Mental Health Awareness Week!
